ORIGINS
OF CAPOEIRA
Let's bring back the 15th century. Let's understand something in the time of
colonization, a lot of things split up all over the world. When slaves were
brought to other countries, they thought that it had to be a bad dream but it
was reality. They were fighting to have some freedom, but this was impossible.
Escaping from the nightmare and constructing their families, planting and harvesting
in the farmlands. Dancing and having ceremonies that brought them together to
bring back their cultures of different tribes.
Capoeira Angola is a tribute to the people of Angola,
brought to Bahia as slaves, who worked their hardest to construct Capoeira in
Bahia. Capoeira is the reconstruction of the rituals and traditions of those
African communities in Bahia, Brazil coming together to bring freedom. This
art disguised fight as a dance, rehearsing between two people to become free.
Therefore Capoeira developed in Brazil because of the need to escape the oppression
of slavery which is why it is not found in Africa. My identification of this
story of my people makes me feel the glory of representing the past. [ the words of an Brazilian, Mestre Caboquinho
de Aruanda ]
